DILLON COUNTY, S.C. — A local police-department headquarters in the Pee Dee region is set to receive a significant renovation after years of deferred maintenance. A U.S. congressman announced the allocation of $150,000 in federal funding to update the facility, alongside a larger safety-project grant for the county.

The funding, secured as part of the federal appropriations process, will address major infrastructure issues at the facility, including roof replacement, mold remediation, new steel security doors, upgraded evidence-storage space and installation of safety/privacy glass in the public lobby. The current condition of the building includes water damage and deteriorating infrastructure that have affected operations and staff morale, officials said.
The police chief expressed gratitude that the improvements will allow officers to return to a safe, modern working environment after being displaced for more than two years. The town’s mayor said the investment strengthens public-safety service and underscores the importance of collaboration between local leadership and federal agencies.
In addition to the $150,000 renovation at the police department, the same congressional funding package includes a multi-million-dollar grant for replacing a fire station in the region. Local administrators said the combined investments represent a boost in both morale and capability for first-responder services in the area.
